Microsoft Agrees to Acquire Google for $6.4 Billion
Microsoft has agreed to acquire Google, a privately held company that provides search services for search engines and web portals, for $6.4 billion the software maker has announced. Microsoft plans to use the acquisition to beef up its MSN web search service. Its mission will be to expand the MSN portal's range of online services, the company said in a statement. The unit will be part of Microsoft's MSN Network, which offers internet services to 175 million users. Google and Microsoft expect to complete the transaction in the second quarter.
